Get to know Rob McConnell-Titley, Service Delivery Manager (South) for Dawsongroup bus and coach (DGBC). From family to cooking, we talk with Rob about his role, influences, and what keeps him motivated every day.
What was your first job?
My first job was way back in 1998, working in the local Fish and Chip shop – quite a far cry from the world of vehicle rental, but being a foodie it was a great place to start my working career. Oh, how I loved the leftovers at the end of the shift.
When did you join DGBC?
I first joined Dawsongroup bus and coach in 2012.
What was your first job at DGBC?
My first role in DGBC was as a Service Delivery Controller.
What’s your current job, and what does it involve?
My current role within the bus and coach team is Service Delivery Manager for the South. This involves managing a team of Service Delivery Controllers, valeters, and drivers and ensuring that ALL our vehicles arrive with our customers clean and compliant.
What’s been the highlight of your time at DGBC?
My highlight has been the opportunity to grow and progress. During my time at Dawsongroup, the company has allowed me to work in different areas within bus and coach, working my way up the ranks.
What significant changes have you seen in the business during your time at DGBC?
I’ve seen significant changes in the business since I first joined, particularly in the age profile of our vehicles and the speed at which we turn them around. We now have newer vehicles, which not only improves our fleet, but also allows us to get recently returned vehicles back into service more quickly.
What motivates you at work?
Apologies for the cliché, but it must be my family. My beautiful wife and 5 children motivate me every single day.
What career advice would you give to your younger self?
Always give 110% irrespective of the hurdles you come across.
What’s one thing that can instantly make your day better?
Positive feedback from our customers. No matter how tough the day may be, hearing positive feedback from our customers makes me realise that the team and I are doing something right.
What’s your favourite way to spend a day off?
Spending time with my family. I realise we spend a lot of time at work, so on my days off, I concentrate on them, whether it’s going for walks with our dog or just being in each other’s company. I also enjoy cooking, and sometimes, and this very rarely happens, I enjoy doing absolutely nothing!
Which of your personality traits are you most proud of?
I am a very positive person, and I try to see the positive in any situation.
Do you live by any piece of advice or motto?
Positivity breeds positivity, and negativity breeds negativity. Hence I always try to be positive.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself
I was a keen rugby player as a “young’un” and had many a training session with the famous Underwood brothers.
What’s on your bucket list?
To travel and explore as much of the world as possible.
