The partnership “establishes this vehicle as a true alternative for accessibility anywhere in the UK” – Anton Chiu-Foon, Service Delivery Manager at Dawsongroup.

Reimagining the iconic London taxi for healthcare, Dawsongroup has partnered with the London EV Company (LEVC) to deliver a sustainable, accessible transport solution for NHS patients.

Dawsongroup have supplied a new fleet of LEVC taxi-ambulances to Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, supporting the Trust’s commitment to more accessible and environmentally conscious patient transport across London.

Daniel Crossey, General Manager of non-emergency patient transport at Guy’s and St Thomas’, said: “These new vehicles are more sustainable and accessible, but also look great. Everyone can identify a London cab – we’ve even had people try to flag them down. The feedback we’ve had from patients using these is really positive – they like the comfort, the additional space, and the flexibility.”

The new TX taxi-ambulances combine the familiar and iconic silhouette of the London black cab, with a white exterior and high-visibility ambulance markings. Instantly recognisable and built for purpose, they meet the specific needs of non-emergency medical transport.

These vehicles are electric hybrid, and fully wheelchair accessible, helping patients of all mobility levels reach their hospital appointments safely and comfortably. They include integrated lamps, low step, swivel seat, braille switched, and high visibility handles. Being hybrid vehicles, they are taking the first steps in the right direction to fulfil the sustainable policy operators are on now getting on board with.

Jenny Jin, Executive Director at LEVC said, “With its iconic design, zero-exhaust emission capability, and class-leading accessibility, the TX is perfectly suited to support NHS services.”

Purpose-built for urban environments, these vehicles are uniquely suited to central London. This includes offering access to bus lanes, featuring a compact turning circle – a key advantage inherited from the iconic London taxi design – ideal for navigating the city’s busy streets.

Anton Chiu-Foon, Service Delivery Manager at Dawsongroup stated that “Coordinating the introduction of the LEVC Access to Guys & St Thomas’, has filled me with enormous pride, especially being a Londoner. Seeing the end result has made all the hard work and patience over the last 18 months beyond worthwhile and established this vehicle as a true alternative for accessibility anywhere in the UK”.
