Climate Action Strathaven is a registered charity and community action group working towards a more sustainable future for Strathaven and the surrounding areas by helping the community to make sustainable living choices.
One of the projects the charity is working on, which will help pave the way to a more sustainable future, is a direct community coach service linking Strathaven to Glasgow. The service will run 5 return journeys, 6 days a week. The aim is for locals to choose the coach for their journey, thereby reducing the number of cars on the road, creating less congestion, and reducing CO2 emissions in the area.
The charity launched a 6-month trial on October 22nd, and we have supplied a Mercedes-Benz Tourismo Access to Climate Action Strathaven that will be used to run the service. The coach is Euro 6 low emission, PSVAR compliant, has USB charging points, and will provide passengers with a comfortable alternative to their car.
Lloyd Gibson, Regional Sales Manager at Dawsongroup bus and coach, said, “I’m really happy to have facilitated this stunning new Mercedes Tourismo Access to the team at Climate Action Strathaven. It will be a superb example of how passenger transport can take cars off our congested roads and reduce the carbon footprints of communities whilst maintaining a vital commuter link using modern Euro 6 vehicles.
“The community of Strathaven came together to find solutions to combat climate change when it felt the government was not taking enough action. Local initiatives, such as a bike repair shop, community fridge to reduce food waste, insulating homes, and the community transport programme we have helped with here, will hopefully demonstrate how all of us can do our bit in reducing our impact on the ecosystem.
“It was a pleasure working alongside the team over the last few months of planning, and we hope to see more initiatives like this in the future.”
